…A supervised 8-week program (30 minutes/twice a week) of resistance training gave MS patients more strength and mobility, and helped them to feel less fatigued and disabled. Research conducted at the University of Florida in Gainesville

…Research involving 7,402 men who were between 47 and 55 years old over a three year period found “that the likelihood of dementia rose linearly as body mass index increased.” Men with a BMI of approximately 20 were at the lowest risk of dementia, “and the risk rose steadily up to 2.5 times greater for men with a BMI of 30 or higher.” Reported in The Archives of Internal Medicine

…Women in the heaviest weight group have a 2.5-fold risk of dying from breast cancer compared to women in the lightest weight group. Research conducted at Kaiser Permanente in Southern California

…Diabetics involved in a 16 week (twice/week) resistance exercise program experienced “improvements in their bodies responses to insulin” even without any dietary changes. The author states, “True management of Type 2 diabetes cannot occur without exercise.” Reported in Diabetes Care

…A Johns Hopkins study involving 27,270 men over 13 years found a positive correlation between waist size and diabetes. Compared with those in the group with smallest waists (29 to 34 inches), men with larger waist sizes were at least twice as likely to have diabetes. Those with the largest waist sizes (40 inches and above) were up to 12 times more likely to have Type 2 diabetes. Reported in American Journal of Clinical Nutrition

SedonaFit: About Sedona Health and Fitness Center, Rates, and Hours of Operation

About SedonaFit Programs and Equipment
Regardless of your starting point, SedonaFit is ideally suited to guide you on the journey from fitness novice to fitness superstar. Our programs and equipment follow a natural progression which starts by developing a foundation of strength and endurance through targeting individual muscles, and then moves to full integration of all muscle groups to improve movement and performance in all daily activities. The exercise equipment has been carefully selected from two of the top equipment manufacturers in the world: Life Fitness® and TechnoGym®.

The starting point is at the hydraulic strength training line from TechnoGym®.
Because the resistance is provided by hydraulic pistons rather than heavy weights, it is a safe and effective way to start a fitness program, especially for people with concerns about back or joint injuries. The push and pull movements work opposing muscle groups at the same time. By speeding up the exercise you will increase the resistance, or by slowing down you will diminish resistance, and you will find the ideal pace suited to your individual physical condition.

Traditional Weight Training
After a foundation is established, the next move is to integrate the more traditional free weights and weight stack equipment from Life Fitness®. These exercises allow for a wider range of motion, and challenge the muscles by offering more resistance. Of course, our staff will show you how to do all of the exercises safely and effectively.

Your fitness journey will then take you to the Kinesis System from TechnoGym®.
Kinesis is an amazing new development in functional training that offers a wide variety of benefits. It helps increase the ability to maintain balance with movement, maintain and optimize flexibility, increase core strength to stabilize and protect the spine, and increase overall body strength and endurance.

Cardiovascular Training
Cardiovascular training is recommended from day one, and the treadmills, elliptical trainers and stationary bikes are top quality from a Life Fitness®. All of these pieces of equipment offer the capability to monitor your heart rate while you are exercising and to automatically adjust the speed to keep you in your perfect training zone.

Group Exercise Classes - Yoga, Pilates, and more...
Our group exercise classes offer a perfect complement to these other activities. Yoga, Pilates and Qi Gong classes are included in your membership, and our outstanding instructors have honed their skills through many years of experience. See our class schedule for details.
